World indoor 800m champion Mariano García will return to the international stage action on Saturday 18 June at the Meeting of Madrid — a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet — at Vallehermoso Stadium.

The Spanish indoor record-holder clinched the gold medal at World Indoor Championship in a dominant run, becoming just the second Spanish athlete to win the global title indoors. García will try to keep the momentum in the summer campaign as he focuses on the World and European Championships.

The 24-year-old will return to Vallehermoso, where he set his outdoor personal best of 1:45.67 at the Meeting of Madrid three years ago — the last time the public was allowed to attend the meet due to the pandemic, when almost 10.000 fans filled the stands of the renewed stadium. In 2020, García secured his second national title in a row on Vallehermoso’s world-famous green lime track.

Indoors, Mariano García has extended his special connection with Madrid. He has excelled the last three years at World Indoor Tour Gold meeting in the Spanish capital, setting personal bests in 2020 (3rd in 1:46.31) and 2021 (won in a meeting record of 1:45.66), and going deep under 1:46 again this year (2nd in 1:45.82) in his last test before the World Indoor Championship.
